In general, Dr. McDougall's soups are pretty snazzy all natural "Cup-a-Soups". If you are looking for a quick, easy, low-calorie, all natural lunch option, this is it. This tomato basil pasta flavor in particular has a really good, well spiced taste. It has lots of pasta noodles and is only 100 calories, with virtually no fat in the whole container, which is kind of crazy insane. It also has some fiber and is relatively low in sodium as soups go - 360mg. Just make sure you follow the directions and let it sit for 7 minutes with the lid on after microwaving, otherwise the noodles will not be cooked enough (plus it will burn your mouth off). This is also really critical for getting the full taste out of all of the spices.

Butternut Squash soup: the scoop: If you follow my reviews, you know I'm always on the hunt for lower sodium soups (regular soups will blow your whole sodium intake for the day in about 2 servings). Well, today's find is a popular favorite: butternut squash soup. This one was good (not great), but definitely good and I liked the fact that it is low in sodium (as far as soups go) and organic. However, it wasn't as creamy as the Trader Joe's version that I am trying to give up (because of the sodium issue mentioned above). Overall, I'd like to believe I'd switch to this soup, but I have this bad feeling I might pick up the evil sodium saturated Trader Joe's version the next time I'm there. The search for the perfect butternut squash soup goes on...

My all time favorite soup is Amy's Low Sodium Chunky Tomato Bisque, however, this low sodium cream of tomato soup has 20 fewer calories, and comes in a VERY close second! The only downside is that it has fewer tomato chunks. Still a great option if you are trying to shave a few more calories off your soup, and if you eat the whole can (which most people do), you are really saving 40 calories. I mix in 2 tbsp. of Organic Valley Sour Cream for a crazy, insane dining experience. Organic and gluten free to boot! Love these soups, they are a dieter's dream! xoxox. *Note: Soup Salt Watch: Regular soups have 900mg of sodium, where the recommended daily allowance is 2000mg (for a 1500 calorie diet), so that takes up just about 1/2 a day's worth in one serving.

It's not every day that you see a corn and lemongrass soup, so when I saw this on the shelf I was oh-so-curious to see what it tasted like. Well, it certainly lives up to its name, as it tastes just like a mixture of creamy corn and lemongrass (although the lemongrass taste is more dominant). It is not only ridiculously unique, it is also a fantastic ingredient to add to sauces and curries. I tried adding this to my Thai green curry sauce, and it worked as a good substitute for real lemongrass...which is great news considering real lemongrass can be tricky to find. If you would like to try and make Thai sauces but are a little intimidated, give this a try. It not only adds the lemongrass flavor, but also adds a nice creamy texture without adding the calories of real cream. Nutritionally this really isn't an all-star. It is high in sodium (like every soup) and is a littler higher in sugar and carbs, although it is a good source of Vitamin C.
